  • I don’t have a name for my business. Can I still get insurance coverage?
A business name is a mandatory field only for Limited companies or those in Partnership. If you are the sole owner of the company, you can leave the business name blank on your application for coverage.
  • I have a vehicle for my hotel. Can that be covered under hotel/guest house insurance policy?
Unfortunately, no. Any vehicles are not covered by guest house/hotel coverage, but our insurance provider does offer vehicle insurance as a separate product. Please contact us for more information.
  • My hotel/guest house type is not listed on your application options
If you do not see your type of establishment on our list, or find a best match for your type of hotel, please contact us for more information and assistance.
  • I own multiple hotel/guest house’s. Can they all be covered under one policy?
Unfortunately, our policies are designed for only one establishment per policy. You can hold more than one policy.
  • My hotel/guest house is also a restaurant, pub, etc. Can I get coverage with multiple trades at one site?
If your guest house has between 4-12 bedrooms with a bar or restaurant attached, we will most likely be able to cover you under Guest House Insurance. If your main business is the making and serving of food or drink and you have no more than 4 bedrooms, your business is better suited to Restaurant or Pub Insurance. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding which insurance would be right for you.
  • How many staff can I have to be covered by hotel/guest house insurance?
We do no limit the number of staff under your guest house insurance policy, but we do ask how much you pay in wages each year.
  • Does the hotel/guest house insurance cover a certain number of guest rooms?
Our guest house/hotel insurance only covers up to 12 guestrooms/bedrooms.
  • There is a restaurant attached to my guest house. Is this covered under the hotel/guest house policy?
Yes, our policy provides cover for restaurants attached to guest houses, even if they are open to the public/non patrons. Please ensure that your Guest House or Hotel type is confirmed on your application.
  • My hotel/guest house has a private function room for events. Does guest house/hotel insurance cover for private events?
Depending on its use, your private function room should be covered, but please inform us of its uses when applying for a quote so we can best determine if it will be covered.
  • I organise outings and excursions for my hotel guests. Am I covered for this?
We are only able to provide coverage for your guests and you as the business owner for activities on the premises of your hotel/guest house.
  • Does hotel/guest house insurance provide coverage for damage to the car park or grounds of my hotel?
As long as you have buildings coverage as part of your hotel insurance, your grounds, car parks, etc. are all protected under the policy, subject to our terms and conditions.
  • I only operate my hotel/guest house seasonally. Can I still get coverage?
Unfortunately, our guest house/hotel coverage is for properties that are open year round; we cannot cover hotels that are closed for more than 21 days per year.

I only operate my hotel/guest house seasonally. Can I still get coverage?
My personal home is part of the hotel/guest house. Is my living quarters and contents covered by the hotel/guest house policy?
Your personal living space is covered by public liability because of the possibility that a guest could find their way into your private quarters. You are not, however, covered for your personal contents under the regular policy; this would require the additional personal household contents coverage.
  • I provide meals for my guests that are cooked in my own private kitchen. Is this covered under your hotel/guest house policy?
This is considered part of the standard coverage for guest house/hotel policy.
  • What is my rebuild value?
Rebuild value is the amount of money it would cost to completely rebuild your building/property in the event it was destroyed beyond repair. The rebuild value puts your home back to the condition it was before the irreparable damage occurred. The rebuild value is different than your property’s resale or market value. Your rebuilding cost can be obtained by having a qualified individual such as surveyor, mortgage adviser, or leasing agent, examine your property or by finding ‘rebuild calculator’ online.
  • What does public liability coverage include?
Public liability coverage protects you as the property owner from legal liability for death or bodily harm on third-party individuals (other than an employee). It also covers loss or damage to third party property from out of the operation of your business.

Your policy documents will include any related exclusions, terms and conditions. For particular questions regarding your policy and any exclusions, please contact our customer service representatives.

  • What is an Employer Reference Number (ERN)?
The ERN or Employer Reference Number, is also known as the Employer PAYE Reference, is given to every business that is registered with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as an employer. Businesses that pay any employee above the PAYE threshold are required to have an ERN, which is the reference number for their employees’ income tax and national insurance contributions.p>
The ERN is printed on mandatory documents including the P45, P60, P11/D, and on most pay slips. The format of the ERN is usually 999/XX99999 or 999/X99999.
Some businesses are not assigned an ERN because all employees (including labour only subcon-tractors, trainees and apprentices) are paid below the PAYE threshold.
  • Why is my Employer Reference Number needed for an insurance quote?
If you select Employers’ Liability and your business is not exempt from holding a HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Employer Reference Number (ERN), you’ll need to tell us your ERN.
We need to give Employers’ Liability insurance policy details including, where appropriate, your ERN, to the Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) who will add the details to their electronic database. The database helps people who have suffered injury or disease at work in the UK quickly and easily find the insurance company, which was providing Employers’ Liability insurance at the time their injury or disease was sustained.
  • What is the Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO)?
The Employers’ Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) is a service set up by the insurance industry. It helps people who have suffered injury or disease at work quickly and easily find the relevant insurance company. To do this, ELTO needs insurance companies to collect their customers’ Employer Reference Number (ERN) where cover for Employers’ Liability has been included. For more information, please visit www.elto.org.uk.
  • Will I receive an email confirming my insurance coverage? Are the documents available to print?
Yes, a confirmation email will be issued within 48 hours of the successful purchase of your insurance policy. Documents confirming the level of cover will be included with the confirmation email and should be thoroughly checked upon receipt. Any queries or discrepancies should be reported immediately to ensure that your cover is unaffected. Once you are in receipt of your confirmation email, your documents can be accessed, downloaded or printed by accessing your account using the login and password you created when obtaining your quote.
  • If I renew my policy, do I receive any new documents?
    Yes.
